You may know the actress Melissa McCarthy for her comedic roles and propensity to poke fun at her own weight. However, she has lost much of her excess weight in recent years. When she was still a struggling young actress, she wondered if her looks or size were the cause of her struggles. Melissa has been acting since she was 27 but didn't break through into the mainstream til she was 41 with the comedy hit Bridesmaids. Her late success proved her weight didn't ultimately hold her back.

She has been on many diets throughout her career, ranging from an all-liquid one to a high-protein, low-carb one. She lost seventy pounds on the liquid diet in four months, which was doctor-supervised. Looking back, Melissa said she would not do that again since it drove her crazy. For her, the best diet was healthier eating with a focus on high proteins and more exercise, such as doing martial arts. Doing this, she reportedly lost fifty pounds in 2015 and over seventy-five pounds in a longer timeframe. This non-diet diet was more sustainable for her, as she stopped caring about her weight and diet as much.

She might never be as skinny as some of those catwalk models, but Melissa is at a healthier weight and happy with where she is.
