Chris Pratt's Weight Loss Journey

Posted: Aug 9, 2023 Updated: Nov 29, 2023

Nowadays, you see Chris Pratt's face or hear his voice everywhere; he is a major star in the Marvel and Jurassic World franchises. That wasn't always the case, though. Pratt was only cast in supporting roles earlier in his career. His initial breakthrough role was Andy Dwyer on the show Parks and Recreation. The funny thing is that he was only meant to appear in a few episodes in season one before his performance impressed the producers enough to become a regular.

The downside of his Andy role was that he gained much weight trying to fit into the comedic character. At one point, Pratt ballooned up to 300 pounds. While he was still starring in Parks and Recreation, he would have to lose weight to play supporting roles in movies like Moneyball. These roles caused him to yo-yo diet, lose weight for the films, and regain weight to play Andy Dwyer. One day after seeing how he appeared in the movie Zero Dark Thirty, he decided to get into shape and stay fit.

By cutting out alcohol and working out up to four hours a day, he lost eighty pounds of fat while gaining twenty pounds of muscle. He accomplished this over six months to get a chiseled body for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Chris has not regained the fat since and has become an A-list actor after the success of Guardians.
