At what age is it too old to start doing something so successful that you're renowned worldwide? For Grandma Moses, the answer was not lower than 78 when she began painting for real. She was born in 1860, and she started painting as a kid in school. Her childhood dream was painting, but she did not have enough time when she was younger.
In 1938, an art collector, Louis J. Caldor, noticed her paintings in a drug store and bought a bunch for $3 or $5 each. Moses had her first solo exhibition in 1940 at the age of 80. Her fame continued to rise as she continued to paint. She painted over 2,000 artwork over her last two decades. Major museums still display her paintings, and her Sugaring Off work sold for over a million dollars.
