The Montreal Canadiens won after being down 0-5 with 14:57 left in the second period against the New York Rangers. The Canadiens would chip away the lead down to three after two Michael Ryder goals. In the third, two Alexi Kovalev and a Mark Streit goal would tie the game up. After no team scored in OT, Saku Koivu would score the only shootout to win it for the Canadiens.
