The shortest woman Naismith College Player of the Year is 5'6 Dawn Staley, who won the award twice in 1991 and 1992 for the University of Virginia. She averaged 14.6 points and 6.9 assists and then 14.5 points and 6.1 assists a game in those seasons.
She would start coaching in 2000 while still playing in the WNBA. She would win three Naismith Coach of the Year Awards in 2020, 2022, and 2023 while coaching the South Carolina Gamecocks, making her the first and only person to win a Naismith Award as a player and a coach.
