Oldest League of Legends World Champion
Many considered Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok the best League of Legends player since 2013, the first year he started playing professionally. Ten years later, he added another feather to his cap when he won the 2023 World Championship at 27 years old. This win made him the oldest player to become a League of Legends World Champion.
2023 was a more challenging year than usual for Faker as he dealt with right wrist pain in the summer that caused him to take a month-long break. That break almost prevented his team, T1, from qualifying for Worlds because they didn't win many games without him while Faker was out. In addition to injuries, age seemed a debilitating factor in winning. The previous time Faker won Worlds was 2016, seven years ago. The average age of a professional League of Legends player is around 21, and the previous oldest player to win Worlds was Deft, at 26, who beat Faker and T1 in the World Championship finals last year.
Faker would get redemption and win his fourth World Championship one year after losing in the finals. Never doubt the "Unkillable Demon King."
