It is easier to ice skate when you're lighter, so it is not shocking that the average weight of an NHL player is the lowest among the big four North American leagues. The average weight of an NHL player is about 200 pounds compared to the next lightest league, which is the MLB, at 209 pounds. The heaviest NHL MVP is Eric Lindros, who was 240 pounds when he won it in the 1994-95 season for the Philadelphia Flyers. During his prime, Lindros was known for his big hits and ability to score while playing as a power forward.
