Diamond 4 player finished top 32 at TFT Vegas Open

Riot hosted its first Team Fight Tactics (TFT) open tournament in December 2023, where 512 competitors signed up to compete for the first prize of one hundred thousand dollars. Riot sold out all 512 slots in its second pre-sale for Grandmaster/Master players, so all competitors were at minimum Master-level players.

Kaitokite was a Diamond 4 player then and was seeded 458th in the tournament. Each player was seeded based on their set 9 and 9.5 stats. Kaitokite had only reached the Master level twice previously. The skill gap between the highest rank of Challenger and Diamond 4 is enormous, similar to the difference between professional and good amateur athletes. With such a track record, no one expected him to go far. Instead, Kaitokite would score 18 points in Round 1, 15 points in Lobby H in Round 2, and 23 points in Round 3 to advance to the fourth round. His run would end in the fourth round, but he was the lowest seed to get this far. He ended up finishing 25th and winning $1750.

After the tournament, Kaitokite decided to see how high he could climb in the ranking, and he peaked at the Grandmaster level in set 10 on December 28 with 401LP. Kaitokite showed that unknown TFT players can compete with Grandmasters and even Challenger-level players at a tournament.
