Largest comeback Scrabble tournament victory
Good Scrabble tournament players generally score at least 400 points, so David Poder must have disliked his chance of winning when he was down by more than half that in a game against Joel Sherman, the 1997 World Scrabble champion. At a 2001 San Jose Memorial Day Tournament in Campbell, California, David was down by 256 points at the worst; the score was 6-262. David was the 14th seed going up against the fourth seed Joel.
There are few details about the game, but David would return to win by 2, 541-539. This game would be the largest comeback win in Scrabble tournament history and the third-highest score in a loss.
