José Bautista
The cream of the crop in MLB typically demonstrates their ability in the minors or early in their career. The average peak age for a player is 27, so it would be shocking for a superstar player to first break out at age 29.
By 2010 in his 29 years old season, José Bautista had been on five different teams, and his peak stats were 16 home runs, 63 RBIs, and a .757 OPS, all in different seasons. He was a mediocre journeyman, with 2009 being his first season approaching league-average production. That was when José started shortening his swing. No way anyone would believe that the change would lead to him topping the league with 54 home runs in 2010 and 43 home runs the following year.
Those two years were the best of his career, but he was still an all-star for the next four years. After that, he became one of the Toronto Blue Jays' best players ever.
